GMC gets advanced cardiac facility

Srinagar, Feb 25:  The Government Medical College Srinagar has commissioned a hi-tech facility for treatment to cardiac ailments.
 “Department of Medicine, GMC has started a new cardiac centre with state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory under the chairman ship of Prof MMA Kamili, and Patronage of Principal/Dean Prof Shahida Mir,” a GMC spokesman said.
 Prof Kamili said the “newly set centre would cater to patients with cardiac ailments especially coronary heart disease”.
 “Presently many such patients have to travel to New Delhi or other places for specialized care or remain on medicines as such,” he said.
 Dr Gazanfar Ali, Head, Cardiology unit said the centre would conduct cardiac tests at “very affordable rates as pledged by the government.”
 “A Coronary Angiography test costing upto Rs10-15 thousand in private will cost around Rs 4000 and likewise the cost of Coronary Artery Stenting will also cost around half the price of what it costs in private hospitals in Delhi,” he said.
