HC stays Veterinary doctors’ selection
Srinagar, Feb 25: The High Court has asked the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the Public Service Commission that they should not act upon the selection list of Veterinary Assistant Surgeons till further orders.
In response to a writ petition filed by some candidates challenging the list, the Court of Justice Hasnain Masoodi said: “In the meantime, having regard to the averments set out in the petition coupled with submissions made at bar, selection list of Veterinary Assistant Surgeons in Animal/Sheep Husbandry Departments Dated 17-02-2011 impugned in the petition, shall not be acted upon till next date of hearing before the Bench.”
Some of the aggrieved aspirants have challenged the selection list through their counsel advocate Altaf Hussain Naik on the grounds that the Sheep and Animal Husbandry are two separate services and the vacancies referred by the two departments should have been advertised separately and the short-listing should also have been done separately.
The clubbing of the vacancies has led to increase in the number of candidates, making it 210 for open merit in the ratio of 1:7, thereby ‘leaving chances for manipulations.’
The case shall come up for hearing on March 9.
