New roadmap

This refers to the news “Roadmap in two weeks: interlocutors.” Lot of hype has been created around the interlocutors’ roadmap for Kashmir. But given the past experience, we have no reason to feel happy. In the past, several initiatives have been taken with regard to resolution of Kashmir issue. But they have not been translated into reality. Kashmir is actually a complex problem which needs a unique solution. Let’s be very frank to admit that no solution is possible within the ambit of Indian constitution. India has to walk an extra mile if it really intends to resolve the Kashmir issue. To me autonomy is the best solution to Kashmir. It can be easily translated into reality, provided the United Progressive Alliance government gives it a serious thought. At the same time, some confidence building measures like the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and Public Safety Act can go a long way in paying way for peace in Kashmir.
