NC convenes CWC meet
UMER MAQBOOL DAR
Srinagar, Feb 2: The ruling National Conference (NC) has convened an extraordinary meeting of its Central Working Committee (CWC) here on February 15 to discuss local bodies and party elections, sources said.
The meeting, according to the sources, would be chaired by the party President Dr Farooq Abdullah and would be attended by senior NC leaders, including the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and party General Secretary Sheikh Nazir.
The primary focus of the meet, sources said, would be on devising the strategy for the forthcoming civic elections and performance of National Conference ministers in the coalition government. “The top brass will also instruct party leaders to strengthen the party at grassroots level in wake of last year’s unrest.”
Among other things, the membership drive started by the party last year will also come up for discussion during the meeting.
“We have directed party functionaries in Jammu province to complete membership drive as soon as possible so that party elections can be held,” sources added.
