Srinagar, Feb 7: Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand Monday urged upon the LAWDA and Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) to put in more efforts to achieve the targets fixed for various works insisting that the pending assignments be completed by end of the ongoing financial year.
 Tara was addressing the high level meetings of LAWDA and SDA during his trip to the summer capital.
 An official handout said the meeting was attended by Special Secretary Housing and Urban Development,   G.H. Mir, Vice Chairman, LAWDA,   Irfan Yaseen, Secretary SDA and the concerned officers.
 “The Deputy Chief Minister said that the officers and officials who would work with added zeal and zest and great sense of responsibility would be awarded and encouraged adding that however, those officials showing laxity would be dealt under law.”
 Tara directed the officers to complete all the left out works by April 2011 so that the “fruit of these works reach to the people well in time”. He said that experts in Forestry should be associated in plantation and survey of the plants already planted in the catchment area.
 He said: “The Dal Lake is not only important for the Kashmir but for the entire country.”
 Regarding SDA, the Deputy Chief Minister asked the officers to devise ways and means to increase the revenue of the authority so that more and more assets are developed on their own.
 The Deputy Chief Minister informed that SDA has yielded a Revenue of Rs. 21.34 crore till January 2011, the handout said. It was also told that the authority is developing two colonies for economically weaker sections of the society at Noorbagh and Bemina. It was also informed that another colony spread over 435 kanals is also proposed at Rakh Gund Aksha.
 Vice Chairman, LAWDA,   Irfan Yaseen informed the Tara that 25 kms trunk sewer has been laid in the Dal Lake while 21 kms drains have been re-modelled. He said that 50 percent work on Brari Nambal and Nala Amir Khan Sewerage Treatment Plants has been completed. 
 He further said that plantation on 700 hectares of land in the catchment area has been completed and another 400 hectares would be brought under plantation during the month of March 2011.
 Tara appreciated the LAWDA and SDA officers and officials for evincing keen interest for completion of the works.
 Meanwhile a deputation from Gulshan Nagar Bypass led by   Nizam-u-Din called on the Dy CM at Banquet Hall and apprised him of their civic amenities problems and waterlogging.
 “The Dy CM issued on the spot instructions to the Commissioner, SMC, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad to install a water pump in the area so that water is drained out of the area for the convenience of the local people.”
