Kashmir sentiment
Whenever Kashmir freedom sentiment manifests itself in the shape of uprising, discussions on Kashmir pick up particularly in New Delhi. Most of the discussions are aimed at confusing the public opinion and rarely to arrive at any conclusion pointing towards a peaceful democratic solution to the longstanding dispute. For confusing public opinion, the help of English lexicon is taken selectively both by New-Delhi based electronic and print media and the political leadership. During 2010-summer uprising in Kashmir, a time period of two months elapsed for New-Delhi based channels to change the idiom from “ Paid Trouble-makers” to “Protesting Youth.”. Even in the streets of Kashmir, some people use the ugly words while discussing the recent history of Kashmir freedom struggle. Presently, the word that has tremendous ramifications on the Kashmir Freedom Struggle is “achievable”. Achieve means to succeed in doing or having what is planned or intended after a lot of effort (Macmillan English Dictionary). It also means to reach, attain or accomplish by effort (Oxford English Dictionary). The Freedom Movements have relied more on resistance than dialogue and diplomacy. The end goals in Freedom Movements are more envisioned and targeted than mapped. The freedom struggle is more for restoration of human, civil and political rights of the masses than for land or territory. When goals are mapped by the leaders without resistance, coupled with reliance on sheer dialogue and diplomacy, the set goals are not that of a Freedom Movement. So is the case with roadmaps leading to Autonomy, Self-Rule, Achievable Nationhood and Musharraf Formula? All these roadmaps got rejected and buried under the debris of antagonistic attitude of New Delhi. For sustaining dialogue and diplomacy and to make these accords successful, Yasir Arafat drew maps but could not achieve the goal he had actually set for himself and his people. He could earn Noble Prize For Peace for himself but not the dignity and peace for the people he led.
