PM to visit Jammu

Jammu, Feb 7: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to visit Jammu by ending March, to inaugurate the newly built residential flats for Kashmiri Pandit migrants.
He will also address the convocation of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu, official sources said Monday.
They said that the construction work at Jagti - where a satellite township has come up to accommodate Kashmiri Pandit migrants there – is at the final stage and the union home ministry and state government has been informed that the flats will be ready after March 25, this year.
 The state government has requested the prime minister to inaugurate the flats, funded by the Government of India, under Prime Minister Reconstruction Plan.
 Sources claimed that the Prime Minister Office has conveyed the state government that Dr Manmohan Singh will be visiting Jammu to inaugurate the flats Dr Singh had laid the foundation of this complex in July 2007, when he had last visited Jammu.
 According to sources, Dr Singh will also attend and address the convocation of the SKUAST Jammu.
 This will be the Prime Minister's first visit to the state after the summer unrest in the Kashmir Valley in 2010. He had last visited the state on June 7 last year when he addressed the convocation of SKUAST (Kashmir).
 Official sources said that a team of home ministry recently visited the project site to have a on the spot assessment of the ongoing work.
 “The team, headed by home secretary – who accompanied union home minister P Chidambaram during his recent visit - was briefed about the project and it was conveyed that the flats will be ready after March 25”, sources said.
 They added that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is also expected to visit the construction site on this Wednesday.
