Make City clean, pollution free: Dy CM tells officials

Srinagar, Feb 8: The Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand on Tuesday asked the officials to gear up development works and make efforts to keep City clean and pollution free.
 Tara was addressing the officers and other functionaries of Local Bodies department and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) during his visit to the summer capital. The Commissioner, SMC, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, Director Local Bodies, Khawaja Farooq Renzushah and Special Secretary HU&D,   Ghulam Hassan Mir were present in the meeting.
 “Tara instructed the functionaries to utilize all their resources for generating revenue adding that the officers or officials who would perform well would be suitably awarded and encouraged,” an official handout said.
 Tara said the increase in the revenue would help these units to establish their own assets which would help in providing better basic amenities both in Srinagar and towns of the Valley.
 “Earlier, reviewing the functioning of the SMC, the Commissioner, Sheikh Muhstaq Ahmad, informed the Deputy Chief Minister that the measures taken by SMC for clearing snow from lanes and drains of the Srinagar City besides pumping out water from various areas accumulated due to snow,” the handout added. He assured Tara that all “possible efforts would be put into complete all the ongoing works till March 2011.”
 The Director Local Bodies, Renzushah while projecting the achievements of his departments informed that loan amount of Rs. One crore has so far been incurred on the development of Bus Stand Ganderbal and Rs. 50 lakh on Bus Stand Pampore.
 He said Rs. 4 crore have been earmarked for developing new Bus Stand at Pulwama also for which preliminary work has been started. In addition, 185 works under UIDSSMT have been taken in hand and 85 percent works has been completed and rest will be done till March 2011. Under UDS, out of 377 works, 369 are nearing completion and would be completed till end of March 2011.
   Renzushah said that first installment of financial assistance under IHSDP has been fully utilized while cent percent assistance provided under ILC.
 Appreciating the functioning of the Local Bodies and SMC, Tara her termed them as “key institutions for making basic amenities available to the people.”

BOX:CHECK  VIOLATIONS
DEPUTY Chief Minister is understood to have asked the SMC and other bodies to review the allegations of illegal constructions which have come up in the past few months, particularly during the summer unrest.
 Tara, as per the sources, asked the officials to inspect various areas and see for themselves if any constructions have popped up in violation of the Master Plan norms.
 To avoid the violations, he is learnt to have asked the SMC Commissioner to keep a constant vigil on various construction works being taken up including some upcoming buildings in the City centre of Lal Chowk and neighborhood.
