Repression won’t resolve Kashmir issue: Mehbooba
Srinagar Feb 8: President of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that “repression’ and use of “brute force” would not lead to the resolution of the Kashmir issue.
Addressing a meeting of senior party leaders, legislators and district and zonal presidents here, Mehbooba said, “People have suffered for decades on account of political instability. The people in a historic transition in 2002 had rejected gun and violence. They gave a chance to democracy with the hope of seeing their land retrieved from chaos, turmoil and suffering,”
She regretted that the Government of India had failed in matching this sentiment with an adequate response. “This has resulted in more frustration and caused major disturbances during previous three summers. But the government instead of reading the message clearly mistook the yearning for peace and peaceful resolution as a sign of fatigue and defeat landing an entire generation in a vortex of repression,” Mehbooba added.
