Soz calls on Sonia

Srinagar, Feb 8: The state Congress president, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz called on AICC president and UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi Monday.
Soz, according to sources, had detailed discussion with Sonia over the cabinet expansion and reshuffle of ministries in Jammu and Kashmir and the recent Handwara killing.
Confirming the meeting Soz told Greater Kashmir that he had a detailed discussion with Sonia on issues pertaining to the party and to the coalition between Congress and National Conference.
Asked whether cabinet expansion was discussed, Soz, without elaborating, said, many issues were discussed. “The political situation in J&K was discussed. I apprised Sonia Ji about Union Home Minister’s visit to J&K and told her that the interaction he (Chidambaram) had with state Congress leaders was satisfying,” Soz said.
Highly places sources revealed that state Congress leaders are in hurry for cabinet expansion, but the coalition partner National Conference wants to delay the process. Congress has two cabinet berths vacant while NC has only one.
Meanwhile, a deputation of All Jammu and Kashmir Saffron Growers Association led by Soz also called on the Sonia and apprised her about falling saffron prices.
The deputation appealed the UPA Chairperson to stop the practice of imported saffron sold in the name of Kashmiri brand. They also pleaded for strict action against those indulging in saffron adulteration.
Sonia assured to take up the issue with the Union Commerce Minister for appropriate action.
