Strong condemnation
This refers to the news “Sopore evokes widespread condemnation.” The incident has shaken people across the Valley. It has been condemned by one and all, including the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) led by Syed Ali Geelani. However, I was pained to see Geelani giving a call against the killings after three days and that too restricting it to Sopore. The killings were not a crime against Sopore but entire humanity. Sadly Geelani acted only after Lashkar and UJC condemned the killings. What kind of an approach is this? No doubt there can be a conspiracy angle to the story, but that doesn’t mean we can be selective while approaching an issue. Geelani should have called for state-wide shutdown on day one when the incident took place. Other separatist leaders should also have called for a strike. It is time for people to speak the truth and not fear anything. If we are losing lives from one side, we will be losing them from the other side too. May God help us! Ameen.
