Omar for fast tracking ERA projects

Jammu, Jan 10: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reviewed the progress on various projects being executed in J&K by the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA).
Chairing the 16th meeting of the governing body of ERA, the Chief Minister impressed upon the agency to redouble its efforts in accelerating the pace on work so that losses incurred during the five months of law and order situation in the Valley are retrieved.
Omar said measures have to be initiated to remove all impediments and fast track the completion of projects. He said launch of new projects like flyover in Srinagar and Jammu city also need to be made prompt.
The Chief Minister constituted an Audit Committee comprising of MLAs, Ashwani Sharma, T. Namgyal (Members of the Governing Body of ERA), its Chief Executive Officer and Commissioner Secretary Finance for conducting regular auditing of the projects. “This would help monitoring and fast tracking of the projects besides bringing in more transparency in the execution of works”, he said. The Chief Minister also approved 3rd party auditing for works completed and commissioned by ERA.
Speaking in the meeting Chief Secretary, S. S. Kapur emphasized on relieving the pressure on Srinagar city by building office complexes in the periphery of the city especially in Pampore area where land is available for the purpose. He also favoured vertical constructions within the permissible limits to utilize the land in judicious manner.
In a comprehensive and detailed PowerPoint presentation Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas who is also Chief Executive Officer of ERA, enumerated the status of various schemes and works programme scheduled by ERA to execute the works on fast track.
The CEO said that most of the impediments in the execution of various works have been removed and the agency is mooting a proposal to extend the time for physical and financial closures of the projects. He said monthly, quarterly and annual targets have been set so that there is no delay in the delivery of the sub-projects.
