Attn fruit growers
Jammu, Jan 11: Department of Horticulture, Jammu has advised the fruit growers/orchard owners of sub-tropical areas of Jammu Division to take precautions against the frost damage to the young fruit plants particularly mango, litchi, papaya and aonla resulting from prevailing decline in the temperatures. The frost conditions are likely to prevail till February.
The fruit growers have been advised to take precautionary measures to avoid frost damages to fruit plants like cover the young/ newly planted fruit plants with locally available thatching material like paddy straw, grass or polythene sheet, keeping the south east side open for aeration and sunshine, wrap the tree trunk with Gunny Bags, smoke in the orchard area by burning dry leaves/ orchard waste at several places during evening hours, irrigate the orchard area frequently by flooding during evening hours and monitor the fruit trees regularly for any damage and be in constant touch with field staff of Horticulture department.
