Why silence?

The killings of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone have triggered a renewed debate. For the last 22 years many innocent lives were lost and in most of the cases the killers were not punished or even identified. Even today such killings continue either by the so-called security forces or the so-called unidentified gunmen. Prof Abdul Gani Bhat and even Mirwaiz Umer Farooq were candid enough to declare that the killers Mirwaiz Sahib and Lone Sahib were "our own people". One wonders if Mirwaiz or Prof Gani knew the killers, why they maintained silence over it for the past two decades? Mirwiaz Molvi Farooq was assassinated and it was followed by killings of many mourners near Islamia College and killing of Molvi sahib was attributed to some elements not sympathetic to the Kashmiri freedom cause. It is time to speak the truth and further the cause of political and economic freedom. We have to come out of hibernation and make sure that such gruesome killings don't go unnoticed and the culprits don't go unpunished. Kashmir has suffered enough and it is the people of Kashmir with its political parties to save the life and property of the people.
