SMC prosecutes offender unit for selling ‘adulterated’ milk

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Jan 12: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation has filed a challan against the Sunshine Toned Milk after its samples were found “adulterated and misbranded”.
Acting on the complaints, a team of SMC led by its Health Officer Dr Riyaz Ahmad had seized over 1000 litres of Sunshine Toned Milk during a market checking in the city a few days ago. The samples of the milk were sent to the Public Analyst Lab.
“The public analyst has found that the milk of Sunshine brand is adulterated and misbranded. Besides the unit has been running without food license. We have filed a challan in the Court of Muncipal Magistrate against the unit,” Dr Riyaz told Greater Kashmir.
He said the SMC has filed 72 challans against offenders including meat sellers, bakery owners and provision shops for selling expired and adulterated items and food stuff.
“We have also seized over five quintals of polythene from various shops across the City. The drive against the polythene will continue,” Dr Riyaz added.
