Take action against corrupt ministers, legislators: Vakil to CM

Jammu, Jan 16: Senior Congress leader and MLC, Abdul Gani Vakil today asked the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to take strong action against many present and former ministers, ex-legislators and public servants who have become crorepatis overnight.
Addressing a convention here, Vakil said “These persons, who lived in penurious and modest economic conditions after assuming the office, became crorepatis. They should be forced to reveal source of their fortunes, evidently disproportionate to their known and legal sources of income.”
Vakil expressed full faith in Omar Abdullah’s campaign to eradicate corruption. “It would all prove to be a futile exercise unless the head of the Government rises above the inhibition of conventional vote bank politics,” he said adding the chief minister “has to take drastic steps without thinking much about its consequences, as the people at large want a neat and clean system.”
“The opposition in the State is in nexus with the corrupt people and that is the reason they create hurdles in reviving Accountability Commission since there are cases against some of their leaders,” he alleged.
