200 passengers stranded in Kargil

Kargil, Jan 17: At least 200 passengers are stranded in Kargil as the courier service introduced by the government has ‘failed’ to take off, the locals said.
“Authorities in November 2010 had announced that N-32 courier service would carry the passengers to and fro from Kargil to Srinagar twice a week and once week from Jammu to Kargil. Since November the flight has operated only four times,” they told Greater Kashmir.They urged the Divisional Commissioner to intervene and rescue the stranded passengers.
Bazmi Hamdania rechristened Himayatul Islami
Srinagar: In pursuit of greater service to Islam, the general council of Bazmi Hamdania under the supervision of Dr Ghulam Qadir Allaqaband in a unanimous decision changed the name of Bazmi Hamdania to “Jammu Kashmir Jamiat-i-Himayatul Islami”. In a statement, it said Moulana Showkat Hussain Keng and Moulana Khurshid Ahmad Qanoongo were elected as Patron and President respectively and Moulana Abdul Haq Owisee as general secretary of the organization. The official mouth piece “Nawai Hamdan” will continue to be published with the same name, it said. Moreover, 25 members of working committee and hundred more members and some office bearers of general council were also formed in same meeting. Ghulam Nabi Kamili, publicity secretary said.

Srinagar, Jan 17: Police on Monday arrested the son of Tehreek-Hurriyat district secretary Ghulam Ahmad Dar during a raid on his Alaipora residence in Budgam district.A statement said police arrested Dar’s son Ajaz Ahmad, a graduate student, during the raid and also “harassed” his family.“This is a brazen act of state terrorism and political vendetta. Such was the police harassment that Dar’s nine-year-old son, Mushtaq Ahmad went into shock and had to be hospitalized later,” Ayaz said. (PBI)

Srinagar, Jan 17: Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar, Executive Producer Shabir Mujahid has been posted as Director Doordarshan Kendra Jammu.Shabir will replace Naseem Khan who will attaint superannuation on January 31.
Shabir was the part of Doordarshan crew in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and Asian Games in China.
