Day 2: Interlocutors meet Guv, Tara

Jammu, Jan 18: The three-member Interlocutors’ panel appointed by the Government of India (GoI) on Tuesday evening met the Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan here and briefed him about their interactions with various sections of the society in the past two days.
 During the over two-hour-long meeting, the panel comprising, Dileep Padgaonkar, M M Ansari and Prof Radha Kumar discussed with the Governor some of the significant issues that had emerged during their meetings.
 Later they also called on the deputy chief Minister Tara Chand and had discussions with him over one and a half hour.
 Tara Chand said that present coalition government was working for equitable development of all the regions. He informed the interlocutors that majority of the people of Jammu and Kashmir are peace lovers and eager for development in various sectors.
 Interacting with interlocutors with regard to youth unemployment problem, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the government has adopted very transparent policy in this sector. He said SKWEPY was launched to enable large number of youth to take benefit of the same. “The Public Service Commission and Recruitment Boards have been geared up for speedy recruitments in most genuine and transparent manner,” he claimed.
 Earlier, the panel visited Udhampur town and held separate meetings with cross sections of society to take their viewpoint for the formulation of roadmap to political settlement in Jammu and Kashmir.
 They met the representatives of different political parties including Congress, National Conference, Bharatiya Janata Party, National Panthers Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Jammu State Morcha, Advisory Board members, People Democratic Party, various Social organizations and NGOs who expressed their views on diverse issues.
 It was the second day of their five-day-long visit of the state. The interlocutors are on their fourth visit to Jammu and they would fly to Srinagar tomorrow.
 Among others Legislators Balwant Singh Mankotia, Baldev Raj Sharma and Krishan Chander Bhagat also met the interlocutors and submitted their memoranda.
 A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, led by its State unit president Balwant Singh Mankotia, submitted a 17-point charter of suggestions to the team.
 The BJP called for abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution and favoured creation of regional councils while the National Conference delegation wanted greater autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir.
 Official sources said the interlocutors also met Desh Rattan Pandita, a Kashmiri Pandit leader who apprised them about the problems being faced by the community.
