Forces cut
This refers to the news “Centre planning forces cut in J&K.” For the past few months, the Indian leadership has been making such comments of and on. Sometimes they say that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act is being reviewed and sometimes they contemplate review of the Disturbed Areas Act. But on ground, nothing is done. The Home Secretary GK Pillai has kept a rider for forces cut: that the situation should first improve. I completely agree with Syed Ali Geelani that for New Delhi, situation has never improved in Jammu and Kashmir. It is just a ploy to lure the gullible Kashmiris. If New Delhi is serious in going for forces cut, it must be visible on ground and people should feel the difference.
