Check inflation: It's causing hell
This refers to the news “Valley consumers flay petrol price hike.” It is the responsibility of the state government to check inflation. It is not only the petrol price hike that is affecting people. See the condition of markets in Srinagar and other towns of the Valley. Shopkeepers are openly fleecing people. Everything is being sold at exorbitant prices. No shopkeeper follows the prescribed rate list. And that is because they are hand in glove with the officials of the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department. These officials leave their cozy office room only during Eid to gain press publicity. For rest of the year, they don’t bother about the common man. They have just learnt to penalise the defaulters on Eid when the problems persist throughout the year. The CAPD has miserably failed to check hoarding and black marketing in the Valley and hence allows people to suffer. Rates of vegetables have gone up . It is high time that the state government addresses the problem seriously before people take to streets.
