UN Rapporteur

The visiting UN Rapporteur should assess the condition of victims of human rights violations apart from the rights defenders. Submitting a report to the United Nations Human Rights Concil is not enough. There has to be a follow up action on the issue. The UN can easily pressurize India to probe the human rights violations in the Valley at the hands of security forces. No police man or army solider of CRPF personnel is above law. Cops must be held accountable. The UN officer should visit the areas in Baramulla, Kupwara and Uri and see the families who lost their dear ones in action by police and paramilitary forces. They must look into the Machil Fake Encounter. Human rights defenders in Jammu and Kashmir need protection. They are harassed and are therefore not able to work. I guess two days is too little a time for the UN Rapporteur to asses the condition of human rights defenders. The visit should have been for a month so that all the cases are covered.
