Man killed in Ramban mishap

Srinagar: A truck cleaner was killed and the driver critically injured in a road accident along the Srinagar-Jammu highway near Banihal in Ramban district on Saturday. Muhammad Farooq of Mahore died on the spot while the driver Munshi Muhammad of Budhal suffered serious injuries when their truck plunged into the 100-feet deep gorge near Nachlana Banihal on the 300-km long Srinagar-Jammu highway this morning. The injured driver was removed to sub-district hospital Banihal for treatment. The ill-fated truck was on way to Srinagar, when it fell into the gorge.

SIE’s programme concludes
Srinagar: A 12 day Capacity Building Programme for district resource persons of Kashmir organized by State Institute of Education (SIE) concluded here today. The programme focussed on content environment, skill development, sensitization about front line agriculture school management etc. The programme was attended by 64 DRPS including DIET faculties. Earlier, the inaugural function was attended by JD Trainings, Suriya Akhter, JD SSA, A C Aima and CEO Srinagar, Malik Ghulam Hassan.

Census training from Jan 27
Srinagar: According to the Census charge (Tehsil Officer), Srinagar, the training for Supervisors/Enumerators for 2nd phase of Census would be held from January 27, 28 and 29, 2011 at Deputy Commissioner’s office complex, Tankipora, Srinagar at 11 am. The concerned officials have been directed to attend the programme on the scheduled date and time.

Rangil Singh PDP’s spokesman for Jammu

Body of GREF laborer recovered
Srinagar: The body of a General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) laborer who was buried alive under a rock slide in Zanaskar area of the mountainous Ladakh region was recovered by police after four days, official sources said.
 They said body of body of laborer Shamsher Singh (No. 191849595) son of Sairam of village Than Po Tetri, Pehoragarh Uttrakhand was recovered by the rescue team of police after four days. Singh was buried under heavy rock slide on Tuesday this week at Nilimoh Podum Nimo Chadar Road. A JCB vehicle and Air compressor machine was also buried under the rocks.

Soldier injured in landmine blast
Srinagar: An Army soldier was injured in a landmine explosion along the line of control (LoC) in Mendhar area of Poonch district on Saturday.Official sources said constable R K Sahu of Army’s 17 Mahar was critically injured when he stepped over a landmine near Kranti Post in the Krishna Gati (KG) Sector along the LoC in Mendhar this afternoon.The injured Army man was rushed to Army’s 425 field hospital for treatment.

Urdu Academy hails CM’s announcement
Srinagar: The vice-president of Jammu and Kashmir Urdu Academy Nazir Ahmad Nazir has hailed the chief minister Omar Abdullah’s announcement that government would appoint Urdu teachers at primary level to promote and propagate Urdu language in the state.In a statement on Saturday, Nazir described the announcement as a right step in right direction.  “Urdu is our official language and we need to put in our effort at government and non-government level to re-develop and promote it. It is the common language not only among the people of all the three regions of state but also a large number of regions in the subcontinent. This language is understood and spoken by vast majority of the people in the subcontinent. Its development and promotion in state means strengthening social bonds between the people,” said Nazir, urging the government to take effective steps for promoting the state’s official language.

VOK produces challan against Beacon official
Srinagar: The Vigilance Organisation Kashmir today produced challan against Shishir Kumar Yadav, Superintendent Electrical Mechanical Grade-I, (GREF), then posted at Jawahar Tunnel before the Court.
An official statement said the challan was produced before Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir, Srinagar regarding the allegation that he had demanded and accepted Rs 14000 from Irshad Ahmad Rather of Drangbal, Baramulla for allowing three trailors loaded with some machinery (hot mix plant) to cross the Tunnel next date of hearing in the case has been fixed on February.
