RTI Act
This refers to the news “RTI activist attacked in Doda” (GK 21-01-2011) for the ‘sin’ of raising voice against corrupt elements. According to the news report it is not for the first time that these social reformers were attacked. Such incidents took place in the recent past too. In spite of passing of the RTI Act in the parliament no one takes the responsibility to safeguard its implementation. Government wealth is being looted without being taken care of by the rulers. RTI is not meant to curb the corruption or financial irregularities as there is a separate system for that. However RTI ensures the disclosure of facts and information as to what is happening inside. Here laws usually exist on papers. With the result common man is being sandwiched by the mighty elements. Jammu and Kashmir figures at the top in the list of most corrupt states and the situation is going from bad to worse. Whenever such incidents take place in which constitutional laws are violated, the government must take it seriously and bring the defaulters to book. However, the contrary is true here.
