Geelani flays police action on Bhat
Srinagar, Jan 25: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani Tuesday flayed the police for “forcibly” shifting the amalgam’s Legal Cell head, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat from SKIMS, Soura, terming it a “deliberate attempt to murder”.
Bhat accused of involvement in a Hawala racket allegedly suffered head injuries in police beating a day before yesterday. “Police forcibly shifted Bhat into custody despite him being on life support system at the SKIMS hospital, where the police had shifted him following third degree torture at the Cargo interrogation centre,” Geelani said, claiming that, according to the medical report, Bhat “had sustained injuries in the head and blood clogging in the chest.”
“Even if the police wanted to question Bhat, it should have waited till his condition improved, given his critical condition the police hooliganism today amounts to attempt to murder and the Amnesty International and International Red Cross should take note of this worst kind of state terrorism, and use their influence to save Bhat’s life,” Geelani said.
