CM statement on Kissan Melas hailed
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Jan 26: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah’s January 26 statement in which he made a particular mention of Kissan Melas, has been widely hailed by the farmers and orchard owners in the Valley. A large number of farmers/orchard owners said the Kissan Melas have revolutionized the concept of fares where the farmers procure agro equipments. They said unlike the past, the present regimes had ended the “monopoly of a few business groups” who would sell their limited products. “This regime has made the Melas very transparent as the farmers are allowed the make selection of products of their choice and even do bargaining with the stall owners,” they said.
Pertinently, for the past quite some time, the departments like Horticulture are holding Kissan Melas where a variety of business groups showcase their products while the government provides on the spot subsidy on the selection they make. But in the past the community would be offered equipments of particular business groups while times the growers would end up complaining they were being cheated. But the new Kissan Melas, the growers said, have been “phenomenally beneficial.”
