BJP activist alleges abduction, torture
STORY CONCOTED: POLICE
Srinagar, Jan 28: A woman activist of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Friday claimed she was abducted and tortured by unknown men during party’s flag hoisting programme here.
Haleema Akhter, 35, wife of Safeer Ahmad Rathi of north Kashmir’s Uri had left to Srinagar on January 21 to attend the party’s flag hoisting plan. However, 3-days later, she was allegedly abducted by two Alto borne men and kept at an undisclosed location in Soibugh area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district for at least 3-days. Haleema, who had unsuccessfully contested last assembly elections on BJP ticket, was also allegedly tortured by her captors.
This morning she was set free by her abductors.
“She was abducted by a group of over ten men, when she was on way to Budgam. She was kept at an undisclosed location in Soibugh, Where her body parts were burnt with gas stove,” BJP, Press Secretary, Altaf Thakur told PBI at SMHS hospital this afternoon.
“She called me this morning and asked me to meet at Jehangir chowk. When I reached there, she was in a bad condition. I rushed her to SMHS hospital, where doctors treated upon her for burn injuries. She was discharged later,” he added.
Quoting Haleema, Thakur said the abducted woman was not sure if her abductors were militants as they carried no arms or ammunitions.
“The abductors were seeking the details of the BJP leaders who were planning to hoist tricolor at Lal Chowk,” he added.
Meanwhile, the doctors attending the BJP activist said she had suffered seven percent burn injuries in right arm and left thigh. “Her condition is stable,” the doctors added.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman described Halima’s claims as baseless.
“During the preliminary investigation by the police none of Halima’s claims were found to be correct. According to the call detail analyses of Halima’s cell number she did not used her phone up to 22nd of January. Halima changed three SIMs for the same mobile. One BSNL number upto 22nd January another BSNL number upto 24th January and Airtel number upto 27th January. And the tower location all these SIMs was some where in Bemina till 27th of January 2011,” the spokesman said
“According to the doctors her injuries seem to be of old nature and at least four-five days old. Keeping these facts, in view that the act is politically motivated and she is narrating a concocted story,” he added.
