PDP mocks at government's call for talks with separatists

Demands release of all political prisoners

Jammu, Jan 28: Accusing ruling alliance of using “draconian methods” to establish its authority, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Friday mocked at the state government's repeated calls to the separatists to sit across the table terming them as meaningless unless all political prisoners are set free.
“The release of political prisoners and hundreds of innocent youth, who have been languishing in different jails, was must to create atmosphere conducive for establishing peace in the region”, a statement issued here by PDP, after holding its legislative party meet, said.
“No strong arm methods have ever succeeded in defeating an idea so there is need to adopt humanistic approach to address aspirations of the people instead of using state apparatus to stifle voice of the common masses”, it added
Releasing all the political prisoners is the pre-requisite condition for creating environment for initiating dialogue, the statement said while ridiculing government’s call to the separatist leaders to come for the dialogue.
“Government has been asking separatists to come forward for dialogue but most of the separatist leaders have been languishing in jails, so this offer reflects that government is not serious in initiating a meaningful dialogue”, the statement said adding, “If government is serious it should make the atmosphere conducive.”
