Srinagar, Jan 30: Syed Muhammad Andrabi, known in Kashmir as Syed Muhammad Sayeed—a noted teacher and father of Peoples Democratic Party's chief spokesman Naeem Akhtar—passed away here on Sunday.
He was ailing for a couple of days and breathed his last at the SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura here where he was undergoing treatment.
Hailing from north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, Syed Muhammad Sayeed was a famed teacher who had an innate desire to teach tribals and served in Kargil, Keran, Gurez and other mountainous areas of Kashmir Valley.
He dedicated his entire property including orchards to set up the SMS higher secondary school in Garoora Bandipora, which has a track record of securing highest pass percentage in entire Bandipora district. In the recently declared class 10th result, the school had 100 percent result with many distinctions. Sayeed, 85, had last retired as Tehsil Education Officer Bandipora.
Syed Muhammad Sayeed was bother-in-law of Nazki brothers including Farooq Nazki, Justice Bilal Nazki and Dr Ayaz Rasool Nazki.
A large number of people attended his Nimaz-e-Jinazah at Umer Colony Parray Pora and then at Garoora. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at Garoora.
A cross section of society Sunday mourned his demise.
The PDP Patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and President Mehbooba Mufti expressed deep shock and grief over the sad demise of Syed Muhammad Sayeed.
In a statement issued here, the two leaders recalled the tireless efforts of Syed Muhammad as a teacher and administrator and also his work for the betterment of the society. “His work will always be remembered,” the PDP leaders said while expressing sympathies with Naeem Akhtar.
Other leaders who expressed grief on Syed’s demise include Muhammad Dilawar Mir, Balbir Singh, Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Sartaj Madni, Nizamudin Bhat, Javaid Mustafa Mir, Abdur Rehman Veeri , Dr Muhammad Shafi, Rafi Ahmed Mir, Mansoor Hussain, Muhammad Khalil Bandh, Syed Bashir, Abdur Razaq Zawoora, Syed Basharat Bukhari, Rafiq Hussain Khan, Ch Zulufkar, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, Zahoor Ahmed Mir, Abdul Gaffar Sofi, Abdul Haq Khan. The PDP MLAs, MLCs and other leaders and office bearers have expressed sympathies with Naeem and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
