Mufti behind exodus of pandits: Kamal
Srinagar, Jan 7: Holding former governor Jagmohan and PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed responsible for the Pandit exodus in 1990s, senior National Conference leader, Dr Mustafa Kamal Friday said the duo “forced” Pandits to flee from Valley in order to malign Muslims.
“Jagmohan and Mufti (the then Home Minister) coerced Kashmiri Pandits to migrate from the Valley to malign Muslims and spark communal riots in Kashmir,” Kamal said while addressing a public meeting in Rusan Tangmarg.
Lauding the role of locals in performing the last rites of a Pandit, Niranjan Nath Koul, he said Kashmir has maintained century’s old tradition of communal harmony and brotherhood.
He also paid tributes to Koul for staying back despite the turmoil, and assured to provide financial assistance to his family, which includes Koul’s wife, daughter and a son. (PBI)
