Address issue

The ongoing strike of the contractual teachers is taking its toll on the students as the higher education set-up across the Valley has come to a standstill. It is highly unfortunate that the State Government is not addressing the issue. Around 650 lecturers are on strike since June 27. It is a very harsh step that the academic arrangement lecturers have to attend six classes daily. The Finance Minister Mr Rather must take time to address the issue so that the career of the students is not marred. The Government must examine the genuine demands of the lecturers including a hike in salary. It doesn’t involve a huge amount of expenditure. Before the situation goes out of control, it is better for the Government to get serious and talk to the striking lecturers. Dialogue is the only way out. It is the responsibility of the Government to make sure that the genuine demands of the academic arrangement lecturers are fulfilled at an earliest. It is the question of the career of students which the Government cannot afford to take lightly.
