Omar, Dr Farooq offer prayers at graveyard

Srinagar, July 11: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and National Conference Patron and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah today offered special prayers for Begum Akbar Jahan, wife of NC founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, on her 11th death anniversary.
 Omar and his father visited the Naseem Bagh graveyard of Jahan, popularly known as 'Madre-e-Meharban', near the Hazratbal shrine on the banks of Dal Lake and offered Fateh (special prayers), officials said.
 A large number of people, including ministers, legislators and political activists, thronged the graveyard to pay tributes to Jahan, mother of Dr Farooq.
 Omar and Dr Farooq also laid a wreath on the graves of Madr-e-Meharban and her husband Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.
 A Majlis-i-Quran Khwani was also held at the graveyard and special prayers were offered for the departed souls of Madr-e-Meharban and Sher-e-Kashmir.
 Paying rich tributes to Madr-e-Meharban, Omar Abdullah and Dr Farooq Abdullah said she always worked for the welfare of public, especially those belonging to down trodden and women and children.
