Consensus on many JK issues: Interlocutors

GKNN/PTI

Jammu, July 11:  Maintaining that a consensus had emerged on large number of issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir in the Round table Conference (RTC), J&K Interlocutors today said the RTC's recommendation will be submitted to New Delhi.
"By tomorrow, we will have a document which gives a detailed account of what can be done (on JK). This will be in the shape of recommendations that participants will make to the group of interlocutors," head of three-member panel of interlocutors Dileep Padgaonkar told reporters after conclusion of the day one of the Round Table Conference here.
Padgaonkar, who along with two other members - Prof Radha Kumar and M M Ansari chaired the meet, said, "We will in turn forward these recommendations to the Government of India (GOI)".
Padgaonkar expressed happiness over the outcome of the meet. "There has been wide consensus on a large number of issues".
"We had two meetings in Srinagar - one with women and another with academics. This one is with cultural activists and others," he said.

 RTC PROCEEDINGS
Sources said that the participants, including intellectuals, artists, civil society members and representatives of different ethnic groups deliberated on wide range of issues pertaining to the state’s pluralism and culture vis-à-vis conflict’s impact on these.
This was their second RTC as the first such conference was held in Srinagar on April 18.
“We had good discussion on wide range of issues. The discussions will continue tomorrow and we are hopeful that the recommendations we made will be the part of the final document,” a participant told Greater Kashmir..
President of Shia Federation Ashiq Hussain Khan projected the problems being faced by the Muslims of Jammu. He said that the Muslims in Jammu have faced the real discrimination at the hands of successive regimes and any roadmap by the interlocutors shall project their grievances as well.
Official sources said that the BJP Member of Parliament Rajan Sushant, who was supposed to attend the meeting, did not reach Jammu.
So far, the Interlocutors have visited 18 of the 22 districts of the state since their appointment in October last.
Over 50 eminent people from various walks of life including culture, heritage, academics, journalism and civil society took part in the meeting.
