2 narcotic smugglers arrested

Banihal, July 12: Police Tuesday claimed to have foiled a narcotic smuggling bid and recovered 162 Kg of poppy straw on Jammu-Srinagar highway at Batote. An official spokesman said that two narcotic smugglers were arrested. They were identified as Charanjeet Singh (driver) and Amardeep Singh, both residents of Kari Sari, district Hosiyarpur, Punjab.
The spokesman claimed that narcotic smugglers were apprehended when a police team led by Inspector Bharat Sharma, SHO Batote under the direction of DIG M K Sinha and Anil Magotra, SP Ramban intercepted a truck (PB-07AB/6309) at Amar Chasma Batote today.
During the search of the vehicle 162 Kg of Poppy Straw (Bhuki) was recovered from a specifically designed cabin. The driver and his accomplice have been booked in Case FIR No. 60/2011 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act at P/S Batote.
