Protestors block highway over power cuts
Jammu, July 12: Vehicular movement on Udhampur-Pathankote (bypass) highway remained disrupted for more than one hour following a protest demonstration by the local residents over frequent power curtailments at Nud area of Samba district on Tuesday.
Reports reaching here revealed that local residents took to street and blocked the Pathankote-Udhampur highway (bypass) at Nud, 45 kms from here.
The protestors alleged that the area is reeling under power shortage and an unscheduled power curtailment was the order of the day. “How can you imagine us to survive in this scorching heat when the PDD is enforcing more than 12 hours power curt a day”, Gurcharan Singh, one of the protestor claimed.
He said that the children and infirm were worst with the power crises. “We have repeatedly requested the department to look into the matter but it seem that there is no one to hear our grievances”, Asish, another protestor said.
Later, senior district officials rushed at the spot and promised restoration of the electric supply to quell the protest, they said.
