Stray packs unleash terror in Maharaja Bazar, Wazir Bagh, Rajbagh localities

12 bitten in 2 days, residents aghast

Srinagar, July 13: Rabid dogs have unleashed a reign of terror in Maharaja Bazar and adjoining Wazir Bagh localities biting at-least 12 people since Tuesday, the locals said.
 The residents of Maharaja Bazar said a rabid dog went biting through the busy marketplace disrupting business activities for hours together on Tuesday.
 “The dog was so hostile that nobody could control it,” said Javed Ahmed Thakur a local adding that his two young niece had a narrow escape as the canine was about to target them.
 “Had I not managed to put them in my car, the dog would have bit them,” said Javed adding that a man was bit multiple times till he could be rescued.
 Similar complaints poured in from adjoining Wazir Bagh where the residents said at least three dogs have gone rabid.
 “We have given up venturing out of homes alone,” the locals said.
 The complainants accused the health officials in Srinagar Municipal Corporation of being callous towards their welfare.
 Meanwhile residents of Raj Bagh said a woman was wounded while trying to rescue her child who was being attacked by the stray packs near the Police Station in the area.
