Anticipating Human Behavior

CONCEPT

WHY DO HUMANS BEHAVE DIFFERENTLY AT DIFFERENT TIMES? ASKS QAZI HAMID-UD-DIN

Human  behaviour which differs from person to person, place to place and situation to situation is a tetra – dimensional complex phenomenon which is indeed invariably non – static and all its dimensions interact and influence one another’s functioning.
Human behaviour, in the general sense, is a person’s immediate response to a particular situation which being quite natural is the cumulative result of the behavioural dimensions like personal, professional, positional and placemental. The quality of the behaviour, as such, reflects the quality of the various dimensions acting and interacting throughout the confrontational period. If fortunately all the dimensions are healthy the resultant behaviour is bound to be most pleasant and of high quality and if the various dimensions operate in ailing health the resultant behaviour is bound to be disastrous.
During the present era all over the world for various reasons the study of human behaviour has become an object of paramount importance especially because of the fact that human behaviour has direct bearing on a collective human life at all levels right from the level of a house-hold to the level of international affairs.
Personal dimension of behaviour means a sequence of personal attributes of a person like personal history, family history, personality encompassing ingredients like academic level, intelligence, aptitude, interest, attitude, physical buildup, ethical turn-out, social aliveness and confidence to handle the situations.
Professional dimension of bahaviour means the influences and impacts of the professions which one may hold. It is a well known fact that the various professions have their own uniqueness in terms of targets, objectives, working conditions, pulls and pressures, compulsions or comforts as a case may be. The common professions like private business, agriculture, government employment and private sector employment have their unique demands and impacts and as such they have a direct bearing on the bahaviour of a person as a worker in a particular field of activity. The profession which provides reasonable freedom to the workers boost the morale and confidence in workers with the result that the job becomes productive and enjoyable and the profession which are merely mechanical give birth to monotony resulting in indiscipline and unhealthy signs in the persons as workers.
Positional dimension of human behaviour means the position of a person in the professional ladder in the vertical order which determines the authority, empowerment and influence of a person sequentially. With the change in position of a person in the professional ladder whether by way of natural process or circumstantial phenomena the role of a person goes on changing either for good or for bad depending upon the functional efficiency of a person.
The fourth and the last behavioural dimension is the placement dimension. The placement of a person in particular situation or institution either enhances or curtails his efficiency as a worker depending upon the nature and quality of placement. A pleasant placement acts as a catalyst and a unpleasant placement retards the functional capacity of a person, for example, the placement of workers in rural areas or poor institutions and the placement in the urban areas or developed institutions has entirely different impact on the functional quality  of the workers which means that the same person acts less efficiently in one situation and more efficiently in another situation merely on the basis of placemental merits.
So human behaviour owes its nature and quality to the nature and quality of the behavioural dimensions and it is on the basis of the empirical study of these dimensions that one can anticipate a person’s behaviour objectively and on the larger scale on can anticipate overall behavioural trend of a larger group of persons working together in an organization and thereby anticipate their total possible impact on the functional mechanism of the institutions in the society.
