Zaina Kadal won’t be demolished

Srinagar, July 15: Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided not to demolish heritage bridge Zaina Kadal in Shahr-e-Khaas here.
The development, according to informed sources, comes after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah intervened in the matter in a meeting here on Thursday. Omar, they said, directed officials of the Roads and Buildings Department not to demolish Zaina Kadal, built in the 15th century by Sultan Zain-ul-Abideen, popularly known as Budshah.
Pertinently, Greater Kashmir had been constantly reporting the public outcry on the reports that Government intended to demolish the historic bridge.
“If an alternate bridge is to be constructed in the area, a separate site should be identified for the same,” Omar told the officials.
The endeavour is being hailed by people, who have been pitching hard to save the historic bridges in Jammu and Kashmir as heritage structures.
