SARAS Mela inaugurated
Srinagar, July 17: Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah today inaugurated 56th SARAS Mela at Exhibition ground here. The 13-day SARAS Mela organized by rural development department, in which 178 stalls installed by various self help groups of 22 States of the country. The products showcased by different States in the exhibition include handicrafts, food items, handlooms and furniture and furnishing items.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Farooq while complementing the organizers highlighted the need of organizing such type of Mela’s which he said go a long way in providing the artisans the much needed market and also serve as forum of exchange of ideas between the artists of different States of the country. Dr. Farooq said by these types of fairs, the artisans as well as the costumers get benefitted as the goods sold are at much lower cost than the market prize and the concept of middle man and commissioned agents is also done away with.
