2 yrs on, dilapidated Thatri-Kilothran road awaits repair
RESIDENTS DECRY OFFICIAL APATHY
Thatri (Doda), July 18: Notwithstanding the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s clear directives to district authorities for accelerating pace of development, 30 km Thatri-Kilothran road awaits repair since 2009.
People living in the areas along the 30-km road are up in arms against the administration for failing to repair the dilapidated road. The road is dotted with dangerous potholes for 14-km stretch make it vulnerable for accidents.
Aghast over the road’s pathetic condition, the aggrieved residents have threatened to launch an agitation.
“The authorities had started the black-topping of Thatri-Kilothran link in 2009 but abandoned the work halfway after completing just 16-km stretch. The remaining portion of the road has developed potholes. This stretch is causing immense problems to the residents, especially during the rainy season,” local residents told Greater Kashmir.
They further said that repeated pleas to the authorities for repairing the road have proven futile. “Due to lack of repairs, the road has become accident prone. Fearing risk to their lives, the commuters avoid the road. The authorities always wait for something unfortunate to occur and then act,” Nisar Ahmad, a local said.
When contacted, Executive Engineer R&B Gandoh, Abdul Rashid Sheikh played down the matter and passed the buck on the Contractor.
“Actually, the contractor who was awarded the tender for completion of black-topping work has refused to complete the project, owing to low rates. We have issued several notices to him and are hopeful that the work would be completed soon.”
