PAC seeks details of purchases by PHE deptt

Srinagar, July 18: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Legislative Assembly on Monday asked the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department to furnish information about total payments made for purchase of pipes during 2008-09 for its examination.
The Committee, which met here under the Chairmanship of Mir Saifullah was not satisfied with the reply furnished by the PHE department about CAGs audit para regarding purchase of ISI Marked Galvanized Mild Steel (GMS) pipes.
After threadbare discussion on the observation raised by the Controller Auditor General’s report, the Chairman directed them to furnish concrete reply to convince the Committee so that the audit para could be dropped.
The Committee also sought information about financial variations of 39 agreements and total variation involved for its examination.
Mir Saifullah directed the PHE authorities to use funds judiciously and implement the prescribed rules presently in vogue strictly to avoid audit objections in near future.
Legislators, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Mrs. Bimla Luthara, Muhammad Ashraf Ganai and Syed Bashrat Ahmed Bukhari gave suggestions for further improvement in tendering process and system of working in the PHE department.
