Kashmir issue
This refers to the article “Of Panchayat elections and Kashmir resolution” by Prof. MM Ansari. The interlocution just seems to be a trap. Experienced people of Kashmir knew about this trap and that is why they never believed that anything worthwhile will come out of the process of interlocution. They started with lot of fanfare and ended with Panchayat elections. This is the tragedy with the Government of India’s policies on Kashmir. If Kashmiris study, eat, celebrate festivals, perform marriages and demand basic amenities, the Government thinks Kashmiris have forgotten the movement. It is now a recognized fact that elections in state are for better administration and to attend to the daily problems faced by the people. UN resolutions, JL Nehru's announcements, exchange of letters between GoI and Government of Pakistan, Tashkent -Simla agreement etc bear testimony to the above fact. Moreover Plebiscite is held only once and elections are held after every five years in India. These polls are contested on a specific manifesto of each political party. In plebiscite, however, reference is made to choose a political system or geographical contours. For instance Sudan’s division this month through referendum or plebiscite. Prof Ansari should know the differences between elections and referendum. He should not prove to be more loyal than the king and do injustice to his job of interlocution.
