Drainage work irks Nawakadal localities
LOCALS THREATEN ROADSIDE PROTESTS

Srinagar, July 20: The residents of Nawa Kadal localities like Khanqah-e-Sokhta, Lakhiryaar and Dhar Kocha are up in arms against the concerned authorities for what they said “snail’s paced and haphazardly managed” drainage construction work in the area. They threatened to stage roadside protest should the government fail to make the repairs at an earliest.
The residents said the uncovered manholes and “slow work” on the drain has badly affected their normal life.
The Masjid Intizaamiya committees of the area have also expressed their resentment over the dilapidated road conditions adding that water supply line has ruptured at many places.
“Not only the roads even the narrow lanes have been dug up which causes difficulty in movement,” said President Masjid Sharief Khanqah-e-Sokhta, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan.
The residents alleged that the contractors were working at “snail’s pace”.
“Work is executed for a day and then the rest of the week goes useless,” said President Masjid-e-Committee Syed Muhammad Jabal-e-Amli (RA), Ghulam Hassan Dar.
He said manholes were yet to be constructed at the main lane leading to the two Masjids due to which Musalees face inconvenience.
“Some pedestrians were even injured when they fell in the trenches dug up for drains,” he said adding repeated appeals to the concerned authorities bore no fruit.
The locals said the area looks to be “remote village due to the callous attitude of the government.”
They appealed the DDC Srinagar Meraj Ahemd Kakroo to look into the matter
