Electrical employees hold strike
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 25: The electrical employees Monday observed a complete strike to press for fulfillment of their long pending demands.
In a statement, Electrical Employees Union said, the employees across the Valley lodged protests at all district and division headquarters against the alleged callous attitude of the Power Development Department and the Power Development Corporation towards resolution of their problems. “For long time, we have been approaching the Government functionaries to resolve our long pending demands. However, the requests have fallen to deaf ears,” said Union President Abdul Salam Rajpuri.
“A large number of the employees also gathered in the central office at Basant Bagh and held the sit-in protest”, the president said.
He said the executive meeting has decided to hold two day long valley wide strike from July 29 to seek fulfillment of their demands.
However, he said, the employees would meet again at Basant Bagh on July 26 to review the future course of action.
The employees said the Government had in principle agreed that the nature of job in PDD and PDC was risk prone. “But we aren’t given risk and health benefits. It is unfortunate that the Government has so far failed to implement SRO-381 and SRO-149”, he said.
The employees also demanded power share for the State from the power projects. “Our State has been bestowed with rivers and abundant water resources. Unfortunately circumstances have placed the benefits of this natural yield out of our reach. There should be fresh negotiation on the return of Salal, Uri and Dulhasti projects to the State ownership to make Jammu and Kashmir prosperous. The revenue earned from Salal, Uri and Dulhasti can finance creation of more hydel power projects. The whole scenario would compliment tourism, industry and development,” he added.
