Taj for immediate restoration of protection bunds
Kupwara, July 25: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today directed immediate restoration of flood protection bunds in Kupwara district for which he released an amount of Rs one crore as well.
Chairing the meeting of District Development Board, of which he is the chairman, Taj directed the Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Kashmir, to supervise the restoration work.
He also directed starting restoration work at Kishenganga nallah in Keran within three days for which directed sending material on war footing basis. He said a detailed flood protection project has been submitted to centre for funding but till the project is cleared, temporary restorations have to be undertaken so that people do not suffer.
The Minister also advised dovetailing the protection works with NREGA for immediate completion and in this regard appreciated the efforts of MLA, Langate, Er. Rasheed for getting protection bunds for Mawar nallah for seven kilometers completed through NREGA.
Minister of State for Home, Tourism &PHE, Nasir Aslam Wani, who is the vice-chairman of the Board, was also present in the meeting.
On the implementation of PMGSY in the district, the Minister directed the Chief Engineer, PMGSY to undertake a detailed visit to the District within three days and address the complaints wherever those are. He asked the R&B and Forest Departments to work in collaboration with each other and get the necessary clearances in time. He asked the R&B Department to ensure that road projects are completed within time and work does not hamper due to any formality.
The Minister directed the Forest Department to clear all cases of land acquisition in respect of Lolab-Drangyari Development Authority at the earliest.
On the complaints of several legislators, Taj directed immediate cancellation of attachment of teachers in the district. He directed the Chief Education Officer to send an action taken report to him within a couple of days. He also directed making all the ambulances in the district functional for which also he directed detachment of drivers to their original places of posting.
On T&D losses, the Minister said the Chief Minister has already committed Rs 5 crores for improving the power distribution network in the District out of which Rs. One crore has already been released. He directed the concerned engineers to make distribution improvement plans in consultation with local MLAs.
In today’s meeting, the Board approved a plan outlay of Rs. 97.84 crore as compared to last year’s allocation of Rs. 94.25 crore.

Shariq, legislators, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Mir Saifullah, Kafeel ur Rehman, Abdul Haq Khan, Engineer Rasheed and Rashid Qureshi, Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Shafi Rather several heads of Departments were present in the meeting.
Earlier, giving full detail of the expenditure of last year district, District Development Commissioner, Muhammad Shafi Rather said the total district plan allocation of the year 2010-11 was of the size of Rs. 94.25 crores which was subsequently enhanced by providing the additionalties/ Additional Central Assistance. He said district Kupwara gets benefited from various flagship programmes and other centrally sponsored schemes
He said under SSA against the availability of Rs. 117.55 crores, the expenditure is of the order of Rs. 66.56 crores, 67 primary schools have been opened, 74 primary schools have been upgraded to the level of upper primary schools and 128 primary schools, 24 middle school and 74 additional class rooms have been constructed and completed by the end of March 2011.
