8 killed, 6 injured in Rajouri accident

Rajouri, July 26: Eight persons died and six others were wounded when a speedy Tempo Traveler skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge at Mandir Gala Morh in Budhal area of Rajouri district on Tuesday. The tragedy struck when the over loaded Tempo (JK11-5975) was heading towards Kotranka from Rajouri.
 The injured passengers were evacuated from the site and rushed to hospital for treatment while the bodies were shifted for legal formalities and autopsy.
 Giving details, Assistant Surgeon in CHC Kandi (Kotranka) Dr Muhammad Ajaz told Greater Kashmir that out of six dead on the spot, five were identified while one woman remained unidentified.
 Dr Ajaz identified the deceased as Shamim Akhtar wife of Muhammad Farooq resident of Nehali area in Manjakot, Muhammad Sadiq (30) son of Shah Muhammad of Kandi, Imran Khan (driver) son of Muhammad Sadiq of Dhani Dhar in Rajouri, Muhammad Latif (50) son of Muhammad Hussain of Badal and Razia Begam wife of Ghulam Muhammad of Argi area in Rajouri.
 He said that a 12-year old boy escaped unhurt in the accident while his mother Razia Begam died.
 Two out of eight passengers who were shifted to Rajouri succumbed to their injuries late this evening. They were identified as Shafiq Ahmed son of Abdul Latief and Madan Lal son of Sham Lal.
 Two injured, Farooq Ahmed son of Muhammad Farooq of Rajouri and Makbool Hussain son of Muhammad Hussain of Rajouri were air-lifted to the GMC Jammu, while Rafi Alam son of Muhammad Abdul of Bihar at present Jawahar Nagar Rajouri was shifted by road to Jammu,”  sources said.
 Governor N. N. Vohra has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident. In a message, the Governor conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for speedy recovery of those injured.
