Govt must wake up to Islamia College mess
This refers to the news report “Politics mars historic Islamia College” (GK 22 July 2011). I appreciate Greater Kashmir for carrying a detailed analytical report about the mismanagement prevalent in the historic institution. Being a student of this once prestigious college, I am aware of the ground situation here. There is absolute anarchy in the College. Be it students, professors, clerks or the administrative officers - no one is accountable. The people who should have been teaching in the classes are busy in purchasing bricks and cement for carrying out unnecessary constructions in the college. The same people are using the college as a platform to direct the students to their ‘tuition shops’ where they make lakhs of rupees every month. Just before a few days, a local newspaper carried a detailed report about the lack of classrooms in the college which is affecting studies badly. Instead of constructing more classrooms for the 5000 students who are on rolls in the college, the administration is busy in carrying out unnecessary constructions like laying floor tiles in the corridors which prove to be of no use. Teachers must act with social conscience. The need of hour is to initiate short term as well as long term measures for reviving the lost glory of this institution. The Chief Minister, who heads the Governing Board of the college, should immediately initiate stern action against the officials who are responsible for the mess in the college.
I hope the concerned authorities will wake up soon and take effective measures to prevent and mismanagement in this great institution.
