Empower them
Refer to the news “NC indulging in horse-trading of Panchayat representatives” (GK July 26). If these allegations are true, then it is highly shameful on part of the government, which claims to be functioning with transparency. The charges leveled by the Peoples' Democratic Party that the National Conference is indulging in horse-trading of elected representatives of Panchayats should be thoroughly probed by the central government which has created a lot of hue and cry over the Panchayat elections. If PDP has won majority of seats in Panchayat polls, the National Conference should acknowledge it. There is a big question mark on why the Government is delaying the constitution of Panchayats and ensure devolution of powers. The PDP press conference on the issue can be mere politics, but it has become imperative for the central government to probe such allegations. One wonders why Government is not empowering the elected Panchs and Sarpanchs. It is only making promises and doing little.
