Beware! Weigh your oil tin before taking home
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 28: Well, if you thought the label on your edible oil tin showing weight was accurate, you should check next time before making payment.
The Legal Metrology Department has advised all consumers to check the weight of edible oil packed in tins before making any payment.
The gross weight of edible oil tins (with 15 kg net weight) should be between 15.850 Kg to 15.900 Kg as the weight of empty tin generally varies from 850 gram to 900 gram, it said.
In case of any complaint, the consumer can contact local Inspector of Legal Metrology or ring 0194-2430589.
Meanwhile, a team of officers of the department conducted surprise checks of two edible manufacturing units in Zainakote area here.
In one unit ‘15 Kg’ oil tins ready for dispatch to market were found underweight. The offenders were fined Rs 20,000 with further direction to repack the commodities.
