JK has ample potential in sports: Chib
Srinagar, July 2: Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib has said rural areas have ample sports potential and the Government has initiated various initiatives to exploit it.
The Minister was speaking at the valedictory function of a Rural Sports event organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports at Punzwa of Kupwara to popularize the sports activities among youth of the area.
Chib said the central government is very keen to promote sports activities in the state by providing assistance for up-gradation of sports infrastructure.
He said the Union Government has agreed to set up archery training centres 4 each at Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He said every block and panchayat would get play field very soon.
The Minister said the matter of construction of stadium at Kupwara districts headquarter which requires Rs. I crore would be taking up in the District Development Board meeting.
Responding to the demand regarding establishment of ITI in Belligam and Youth hostel at Punzwa, the Minister said the government would consider them sympathically. He said the Punzwa would get one ITI out of 50 ITI which union government has stands sanctioned for the uncovered areas of the state. He said construction of Youth hostel at Punzwa would also be taking up with the Sports Authority of India.
