Srinagar, July 29: Continuing their campaign against the use of polythene carry bags, the officials of J&K State Pollution Control Board and Srinagar Municipal Corporation seized a huge quantity of polythene from a residential house in Nowhatta area of the City Friday.
The house belongs to a trader who has been trading in the banned material. Polythene carry bags are banned in the state by J&K Non-Biodegradable Material (Management, Handling and Usage) Rules, 2009.
The seized polythene, about 150 kgs, was destroyed at the spot by shredding in presence of the locals.
SPCB and SMC have been conducting individual as well as joint campaigns against polythene in the city which has shown good results on the ground.
The Board has warned the traders to desist from the use of polythene carry bags otherwise stringent legal action will be initiated against the defaulters.
